All About Angela

Award-winning Photographer Angela Adams

As a child living in Suffolk, I would follow my father almost everywhere -  he usually had a camera in hand.  We would wander the wide open spaces, beaches, villages and towns and he would take pictures.

Winter afternoons would find mum rumaging through old black and white family photographs with a wistful smile on her face.  Two in particular always fascinated me – group shots taken by a national newspaper of mum’s family during their first Christmas after the end of WWII – the family made the headlines, as all fifteen had survived.

I wanted to capture pictures that made people smile too.   So at the age of eight, and after much badgering, dad bought me a Brownie box camera -  the rest is history!

In the picture below, mum is fourth from the left, standing next to grandad Jones.

Another passion is writing, so over the decades I’ve combined both in my career, providing non-fiction copy and associated photographs for local and national publications, county magazines, books and websites. Time hasn’t lessened the buzz of taking pictures.  For me each photograph I shoot tells a story, recording an emotive slice of life that captures the very essence of the people and places pictured.  My preferred medium of expression is innovative portraiture, photojournalism and black and white processing.  I believe each photograph should stand alone and possess integrity – so over the years I’ve developed a style which has won a selection of awards.

2008 saw me settle in South Norfolk and fly solo with my own photography business.  These days I work mainly throughout East Anglia, but can’t resist the challenge of further afield, if a commission beckons.

Please spend a few minutes browsing my portfolio and give me a call, or email to discuss your photography needs.

    Angela,
Thank you for your kind comments on my winning print at NPG last Wednesday. You wouldn’t know it but it started as an attempt to emulate Steven Le Provest but in it’s failure I converted it to B/W!
At the end of the evening it was grabbed out of my hands by Mike Hancock and now it is on it’s way to the Connahs Quay competition. I’m not normally very competitive but it will be interesting to see whether it is well received there. I feel it needs a little more work!
Thank you again for your judging, and as with all judges I didn’t agree with all your comments, however you made the evening a very enjoyable experience for us all. Thank you again and I hope that it will not be too long before we have the opportunity to see you again.

    .Sincerely,

    Jack

    Dear Jack,
All I can say is that I’m glad your emulation failed – now you’ve created a true ‘Jack Gentle’! Good luck for Connah’s Quay, hopefully I’ll see you all in Mundesley in 2012/13.
    Regards
    Angela
